What does it mean when the exterior of a heat pump is frozen?
A heat pump operates the transfer of heat from outside air to your home. This works to some extent, even in very cold weather. The problem is that the coils very cold outside – much colder than the surrounding air. This causes the accumulation moisture in the coils and freezes. How that allows the heat pump is outside the coils periodically reverse the flow of heat that warms the coils enough to melt the ice. This is called a defrost cycle and is controlled by a timing circuit in the heat pump. If this fails, then no defrost timer and the camera is going to freeze. During a service call.
